UK's first closed wood burning fire with invisible door
6th April 2010
Anglia showcases the SD 442 on its new Exhibition Trailer
The SD 442 by Bodart & Gonay can be neatly and stylishly embedded into an existing chimney, giving a discrete and refined design line, with the emphasis on flame visibility. Even its hinges and controls are invisible.
With flexibility in mind, this unobtrusive stove has been designed to allow two installation options. It can either be installed with the hinged door opening and closing in the traditional way or it can be installed as a hidden sliding door. By choosing the sideways door retraction option, the total size of the appliance is reduced, making the overall look and feel of the fire very sleek and compact.A cold handle ensures the door can be open and shut safely.
Based in Impington, Cambridgeshire, Anglia Fireplaces is the sole distributor in the UK for the SD 442. With an eye for innovation and ground-breaking environmental products, Anglia Fireplaces’ chairman, Graham Vialls is predicting that Bodart & Gonay’s closed fire will be one of the best sellers at the 2009 Eco Build Exhibition.
He explains, “Efficiency and environmental impact is becoming increasingly important when purchasing a new fire and the SD 442 gives an efficiency rating of around 75%. It has been designed to give a high yield, with excellent heat distribution – the real fire experience but without the mess of an open fire.”
Bodart & Gonay has designed the SD 442 so the glass door is constantly kept clean and free of soot. This is achieved with a smoke control system and high combustion temperatures to ensure the fire is never obscured by dirty glass or the design of the room effected.
This closed fire enjoys a low ash production and has an ash removal device making cleaning easy. It has also been designed to ensure that there is low sooting of the chimney and minimal pollution.
To prevent the problem of a vacuum building up when opening the fire door an automatic flue stabilizer has been built into the design of the SD 442. There is also a thermostat to control the temperature of the fire.
